WHO WE ARE

Women in Research (WIRe) was founded in 2007 as a means of connecting and supporting women in the market research community. WIRe facilitates education, entrepreneurship and other career development goals through informal networking events around the globe, an educational webinar series, our “Office Hours” online Q&A series and an award winning one-to-one mentoring program.

We frequently get asked about the inclusion of men in our group. Although our focus is on empowering and nurturing women in research, we’re a man friendly group! If you’re a man with an interest in changing the ratio or working to improve opportunities for women in research, we encourage your involvement.

Encouraging the establishment of empowering and nurturing relationships among women in market research through informal gatherings and educational opportunities.

How we do it

WIRe offers informal networking events on a biannual basis generally in Spring and Fall. We have also created a strong online community through our Facebook and LinkedIn sites where women can connect, post news, ask each other questions and post job opportunities.

Emily Della Maggiora serves as Vice President Data Services for Qterics and Chief Data Strategist for Silicon Image forging new business models and media measurement opportunities in the arena of Internet of Everything (IOT).  While VP Media Entertainment and Technology at comScore, Emily led the media/entertainment market expansion of Digital Analytix, providing next generation enterprise level analytics in big data environments. During her comScore tenure Emily also oversaw new business development for the West Coast and strategic partnerships within Entertainment & Gaming, focused on client proprietary data/insights services leveraging the comScore panel; responsibilities also included the introduction of the advertising effectiveness suite AdEffx and vCE to this marketplace.

Elaine is a Canadian-American Cognitive Scientist in Business. She is an executive in Corporate Marketing, most recently heading up Global Research, Intelligence and Analyst Relations at Blackboard, an enterprise technology learning company. She currently sits on Advisory Boards, consults, and provides strategic advice to world-class technology, education, and media organizations.

With over 15 years of leadership experiences working at the intersection of technology, digital media, and entertainment, Elaine brings a unique perspective that draws upon her management, and strategic research roles for both large corporations and startups in the technology/media space.  Elaine is highly analytical and expert in designing, interpreting, and delivering strategic, actionable research, and marketing strategy for technology, digital media, education, mobile and gaming clients.

Elaine Co-Founded an innovative market research company, Resolve Market Research which specialized in emerging technologies, marketing strategy, and was acquired within 24 months by Bovitz Inc. a larger research company with offices in Los Angeles and NYC. While at Resolve MR, Elaine acted as Co-CEO, leading sales, marketing, and research while managing client and partner relationships.

Marie-Agnes is French, lives with her partner, who is Dutch, and their son in Amsterdam (Netherlands). Marie-Agnes grew up in different countries and multicultural cities. She speaks French, Dutch and English fluently. After her PhD in Economics & Finance, Marie joined the semi-conductor company, Texas Instruments, which gave her the opportunity to learn and to grow in an international, multicultural and innovative business environment. During the 13 years at Texas Instruments, Marie utilized Market Research to advance her skills in management, finance, CRM and business strategy internationally. Marie joined Time Warner Inc. and Starbucks in the Netherlands. During this time, she was responsible for the innovative projects and was part of an enthusiastic community of pioneers.

Marie joined ESOMAR and Market Research in June 2008. As CFO, together with the ESOMAR Council Members, the Director General and the ESOMAR Team, she is responsible for elevating the ESOMAR strategy for growth for the benefit of ESOMAR Members and the industry globally.

She is Cambridge educated and, in addition to being a trustee and NED of the Lowry, she is vice chair of the Fair Trade Foundation.

Previously, Salama was a Main Board Director of WPP Group, and CEO of www.wpp.com. Alisa has been in the marketing research industry for about 15 years, and most recently managed the research department at CMI. While juggling the workload at this mid-size supplier, she became acutely aware of the changes in the industry and worked tirelessly to introduce hybrid methodologies, innovative technologies, and cross-departmental systems. She also supervised many national accounts along with a staff of outstanding researchers.

In August of 2014, Alisa decided to make more time for family and created Harvest Insights, where she provides freelance moderating and research services. Alisa loves a good challenge and thrives on the insight-building process. Amelia is the Research and Data Product Marketing Manager at Spiceworks. She is a market-researcher-turned-marketer. She helps bring fresh research solutions to market and gets the word out on all the awesome work the Spiceworks research team produces.

Armed with over a decade’s worth of research experience (and a special knack for PowerPoint), Amelia is on a mission to spice up humdrum market research for tech brands everywhere. In her former life she was a journalist, ultimately putting her investigative skills to use in market research. After spending her early career managing complex research projects for tech companies, Amelia’s right brain needed to flex, so she shifted her focus to marketing (and has loved every second of it!).

Erin Fredericks is the Director of Sales and Strategy for Navigate Research, a sports and entertainment research and valuation firm.  They specialize in understanding the value and impact of sponsorships across any type of event globally.   Erin relocated to Chicago nearly 3 years ago and now considers it home.  Having relocated for work, she wanted a way to connect with more than just her customers, she started the Chicago Chapter of WIRe and has been setting the bar on attendance numbers at the local level.

Jen Drolet heads up the day-to-day operations as Managing Partner at iModerate. Jen was part of the founding team, and helped to develop the methodology and approach that serve as the backbone of the company’s online research solutions. After a number of years in different agencies, Elina co-founded the Irrational Agency in 2012 to focus on developing innovative market research methodologies based on behavioural science theories. Since then, she has been championing applications of behavioural economics in market research and is a regular speaker at conferences such as ESOMAR, MRS and IIeX, as well as writing articles for industry publications. She is a specialist in cross-cultural psychology and having previously presented her research in global academic psychology conferences, she is currently writing a book on cultural influences on decision making as well as finishing her third Master’s degree at Brunel University (London).

With nearly 30 years in Brand and Communication Research, Kirsten is both a pioneer and thought leader in the industry. Her mission is to leverage current, relevant research techniques to uncover the insight a brand needs for growth in today’s frenetic market environment.

Kirsten’s career has spanned both the client and agency side of the Market Research world; working with many brands, across many industries. She pent 5 years at Intel during the Internet bubble where she traveled the world as the lead of the global advertising research program. While at Intel, Kirsten also provided the insight necessary to develop Intel’s global brand strategy and had the pleasure of working on 7 Super Bowl Ads – one of which her research had yanked just hours before the Super Bowl

She joined TNS in 2002, followed her passion for advertising and built a creative development practice in North America. She pioneered the development of techniques to explore emotive responses to advertising, changing the debate in creative testing. This work led to an Ogilvy award. At TNS she also focused on the role the digital world plays in brand and communications. She led the go-to-market strategy and launch of the first panel based digital media effectiveness approach; giving marketers, for the first time, confirmation of the impact of digital media on their brands. During her last years at TNS, Kirsten led the North American Brand and Communications practice, leading the launch of cutting edge research frameworks and techniques. Lauren is the Director of Marketing at GreenBook, the company behind the GRIT Report, GreenBook Directory, the IIeX conference series, and more. At GreenBook, she serves as guardian of the GreenBook brand and is responsible for the organization’s marketing strategy and implementation. Previously, Lauren held roles leading the production of IIeX and GreenBook conferences at GreenBook, and as a senior member of the marketing and business development team at BrainJuicer.

Lauren studied Economics & Spanish at Wellesley College. In addition to marketing, she loves calligraphy, exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and spending time with her family and her [very big] fluffy dog, Puff.

Jo’s career started over 10 years ago in the communications centre at Facts International in the UK where she quickly grew to become a definite asset to the Insight & Marketing team, before continuing her career working across Chime’s Insight & Engagement Division (CIE) as a Senior Client Services Executive.

In early 2012 Jo took the opportunity to assist Mark Squires in starting up a new digital venture, Watermelon Research. After outstanding growth throughout the first year, her extensive experience with international research and a keen passion for digital innovative technologies, Jo was on the lookout for her next challenge.

2013 saw Jo opening CIE’s first overseas office in Sydney, growing two of the divisions leading brands – Facts International & Watermelon Research, sharing her passion to keep growing business and helping more researchers embrace new technologies. Having grown another successful entity Jo moved onto her next chapter at U1Group, a specialist research driven UX consultancy to help take their business to the next level.
